Theme: God’s Promises Fulfilled: the theology of Luke-Acts
Church leaders and others involved in full-time Christian ministry are busy people. The same goes for Christians serving in local church ministries on top of other full-time jobs at home or work. For most of us theological training seems a distant possibility. Either we invest significant time in a theology course (a wonderful and life-changing thing to do!), or we content ourselves with the reading and preparation we squeeze into each week.
This is where the annual IBI Summer Institute comes in. It provides short, high-quality, intensive, in-service training over two days with internationally known Bible scholar / teachers. It is deliberately set over a Friday / Saturday to enable people to take just 1 day off work. During the two days we explore a major theme or book in depth.
The 2014 Summer Institute is ‘God’s Promises Fulfilled: the theology of Luke-Acts’ with Professor Darrell Bock.
Dr Luke was not only the historian of the early church, he was a Spirit-inspired theologian. During the two days we will examine what Luke says about the plan and activity of God, the character of God and his work of salvation, the mission of the Messiah, the work of the Holy Spirit, God’s plan for Israel and Gentile nations, the church and discipleship, social justice and care of the poor, eschatology, and the Scriptures. We will think about Luke-Acts as fundamentally a two-volume missionary work, with all the implications that carries for personal and global mission today.
