Solid Foundations
Rock steady...
There is a story in the Bible about two men who are building houses. One man builds his house upon a rock, while the other builds his house upon sand. When the rain and winds come the man whose house is on the sand crashes down and is washed away. The man whose house in on a rock remains sturdy and does not move in the winds and rain.
Why Good Friday?
Celebrating Good Friday?
Christians call it Good Friday. Why is that? This was the day that Judas betrayed his master. It was the day that Jesus was abandoned by his friends. It was the day that the legal system failed and there was a monumental miscarriage of justice.
Just enough?
Learning to depend on God
Each day brought the same worry. What about tomorrow? What happens if we don’t have enough to eat?For the people of Israel in the desert, they were not relying on the dole queue for their daily bread… they were waiting for God to provide.
Survival
Are we desperate?
When a walking skeleton over six feet tall appeared in front of his jeep in April 2006, Mark Clifford, a farm manager on a remote property in Australia’s Northern Territory, must have thought he was seeing things.
The skeleton was 35-year-old Ricky Megee, who had been lost in the outback for an incredible 10 weeks. Megee had survived by eating leeches, grasshoppers, and frogs.
Temptation
A chance to show your quality...
In Tolkien’s great novel, “The Lord of the Rings” he depicts two brothers - Boromir and Faramir of Gondor who are tempted by the ring of power. Boromir gives into temptation and attempts to steal the ring from Frodo the hobbit. But Faramir shows his quality by resisting the temptation to steal the ring and use it for his own ends.
Dealing with disappointment
What happens when it all goes wrong?
Tennis fans watched with bated breath as the Wimbledon finals played out this afternoon. For Andrew Murray the hard-fought match was to end in disappointment when Roger Federer once again claimed the coveted title. The mark of a true sportsman is to get up and try again, no matter how crushing the defeat.
Encountering the risen Jesus
Joy comes in the morning
Only a week had passed since that triumphant Palm Sunday entrance into Jerusalem but what a difference in the little procession that set out now! No cheering crowds, no waving branches. Just a few silent women setting out in the grey dawn to perform the last sad rites at the tomb.

Psalm 127 A Psalm for workaholics
Though brief, this Psalm covers it all: work, public life and family. In all three aspects of life it is impossible to get things right without God, so we are reminded to rely on Him, involving Him in all we do.
